About the Open Apparel Registry (OAR)
The Open Apparel Registry (OAR) is an open source tool mapping garment facilities worldwide and allocating a unique ID to each. The tool is used by stakeholders across the apparel sector to eliminate confusion and facilitate collaboration, enabling interoperability across systems and tackling the long-standing industry problem of facility identification. We are built on the principles of "open": open data, open communications patterns, openness to ideas and new ways of working. Community Managers play an essential role in building OAR relationships in key producing regions and among potential users with less exposure to technology. The OAR has set itself a goal to drive traffic and data contributions from countries beyond North America and Europe, and Community Managers will play a crucial part in raising awareness of the OAR in geographies currently less represented in the OAR community. They will tap into their existing local networks to drive adoption of OAR IDs as the industry standard, as well as supporting the OAR team with data management and moderation specific to their region.
Candidates must be fluent in English in order to facilitate communication with the wider OAR team, although local outreach will be conducted in the relevant native language(s). Candidates must have excellent presentation skills and enjoy working with a wide range of stakeholders.
A working knowledge of a sector with a complex global supply chain is highly recommended.
These part-time consultancy positions are perfect for a candidate with an interest and career ambitions in open data, stakeholder management, global supply chains and sustainability.
The OAR is a lean organization with a remote staff base. Community Managers will work remotely from their local region. Current staff are based on the East Coast of the US, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. The team works closely with its technical providers on the East Coast of the US.

Duties and Responsibilities
Building and strengthening the OAR’s network with key local stakeholder groups including brands / retailers, civil society organizations, trade unions and factory groups. Activities include:
- Translation of core OAR materials into local language(s) and advising the OAR team on content localization strategies
- Demos, trainings and user support in local language(s)
- Capturing inspiring impact stories for case studies of how the OAR is being used by local stakeholders
- Attendance and presentations on behalf of the OAR at local industry events
- Management of social media and other digital outreach tools (as relevant to the local landscape) to drive local awareness of the OAR
- Identification and recommendation of potential local OAR Ambassadors, business development and other potential growth opportunities to the wider OAR team
- Maintenance of OAR customer relationship management platform (HubSpot) for contacts in designated region
- Work with local organizations to ensure contributions to the OAR are as accurate and robust as possible, including supporting users with data uploads, encouraging facilities and factory groups to claim and fill out their facility profiles, and training and encouraging local organizations to report closed facilities
Advising the OAR team in how to improve and maintain data quality for the region and actively moderating data to match those needs, including:
- Merging / splitting facility entries in the tool
- Sourcing and updating GPS coordinates
- Promoting better quality addresses to be the master address entry for a facility
- Advising on deep-dive moderation exercises run by the OAR’s Data Moderation team, e.g. on particular countries / regions in the tool, particular Contributor datasets, or combinations of datasets
- Systematically and methodically logging all changes in the OAR’s public moderation log
- Identifying and sourcing reliable and current new datasets of global apparel facilities for upload to OAR, specific to local region
- Liaising with Stakeholder Engagement Manager and wider team on trends, data issues and insights

The Ideal Candidate
This role is ideally suited to a mid-level professional, with 3 - 5 years working experience:
- 3-5 years experience in a sector with a complex global supply chain
- Fluency written and spoken English
- Strong communicator, excellent presenter
- Knowledge of local media landscape
- Confident in the use of Google Suite, Slack and video conferencing apps
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Proactive, self-starter, team player
- Committed to principles of “openness”: open data, open communications patterns, openness to ideas and new ways of working
As well as the essential skills above, the following skills would be highly valued:
- Social media / digital marketing skills, with specialist knowledge of local platforms
- Data analysis expertise
- Relationships with local media
